Best Places to Watch The Sugar Bowl

While it may be a tad difficult to secure tickets to see No. 1 Clemson take on No. 4 Alabama in this year’s Sugar Bowl in person, thankfully you have other options. The Sugar Bowl traditionally takes place on (or near) New Year’s Day, which makes it a fun way to ring in the new year. If you’re lacking somewhere local to go, don’t worry – we’ve gathered a few places you can check out if you’re staying near campus when the new year rolls in.

Clemson Tigers

The Esso Club

The Esso Club is a Clemson landmark and popular destination on Tigers game days, which makes it an obvious choice for those looking for a Sugar Bowl viewing spot. According to ESPN, the place rocks on game day, and despite its humble beginnings (it got its start as a gas station) remains legendary among students, alumni, and fans.

Sloan Street Tap Room

Sloan Street Tap Room is another locale perfect for checking out the Sugar Bowl. Reviewers tout the excellent selection of beer and the homey, comfortable atmosphere, especially if you’re trying to get away from the crowds.

Tiger Town Tavern

Another Clemson staple is Tiger Town Tavern, which is a solid pub perfect for Tigers fans. Reviewers note the “divey” charm and varied seating areas and amenities, such as pool tables, big TVs, and “gigantic” chicken wings.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Houndstooth Sports Bar

The Houndstooth Sports Bar has a ton of TVs, great food, and a superb atmosphere – the perfect recipe for some Sugar Bowl action. Don’t worry, you’ll be surrounded by fellow Crimson Tide fans as you root for a Bama victory.

Mugshots Grill & Bar

Mugshots has a bevy of locations in the South, but we want to direct you to their Tuscaloosa locale for game day. They get high marks from prior customers for a stellar menu (traditional pub fare like burgers and nachos, plus more unique items like Thai shrimp) and a rousing college atmosphere.

Wheelhouse Sports Pub

If you’re looking for a sweet sports bar that also features a vintage-feel “barcade,” then the Wheelhouse may be up your alley. Visitors say the food is great, the games are awesome, and it’s a great place to take in a game. Join your Bama brethren and saddle up to the bar to cheer on the Crimson Tide.
